Seems that Boy Genius Report has got their hands on another iPhone rumor, this time coming from "some guy". Just to let you know, BGR has been incorrect in their previous Apple rumors, such as iTunes 9 supporting Blu-ray and Apple making a social media consolidation application.
Supposedly, this new source claims that iPhone OS 4.0 will have "a few new ways" to run apps in the background, enabling the much-needed ability of multitasking. There may also be some UI changes to make the mobile operation system easier and more efficient for users. This source also tipped that this update will only be available for iPhone 3G and 3GS owners, leaving the first-gen crowd in the dust, yet again (MMS?).
There may also be a revamped Maps application in 4.0, since the current Maps app relies on Google Maps, but Apple may put that acquisition of Placebase to use.
iPhone OS 4.0 is rumored to be a part of the Jan. 27 event, so there's one more week until we find out if this is real or not.
Stay tuned.
