    Happy downloading!

'iTunes Live' trademarked for live performances, Cloud use?

    iTunes-live-34508529.jpeg

Apple has applied for the trademark of 'iTunes Live', which is represented by the above logo.

    What is iTunes Live?

    - Online retail store services in the field of entertainment featuring prerecorded musical, audio and audiovisual content

    - Entertainment services, namely, arranging and conducting of concerts and live musical performances

There also appears to be an iTunesLive.com domain out there as well, which most likely is owned by Apple. Does this mean that there is some sort of Cloud in use here?

It's still not entirely clear what iTunes Live is exactly, but the 'iTunes Live' logo is already available on a few iTunes releases, including the 'iTunes Live in Soho', seen below.

Apple opens up iPad App Store through iTunes

Apple has already opened up the iPad App Store in iTunes with the Wifi iPad being available for sale this Saturday, April 3.

There will already be over 1,000 iPad-specific applications, states Apple. A search in the iTunes Store for the terms "iPad", "HD", or "XL" will also allow users to refine their search to only iPad apps.

There will be a lot of apps that users may already be familiar with, since many developers worked on formatting their iPhone apps for the iPad's larger, 9.7' screen. Such titles like Scrabble for iPad ($9.99), Brushes - iPad Edition ($9.99), and Twitteriffic for iPad (free) are already available for preview in the iTunes desktop client.

Apple released an update to iTunes this week, version 9.1, which adds iPad compatibility for syncing and iBooks support.

In addition to all of the iPad specific apps, the iPad will be able to run all iPhone software, which currently has more than 150,000 applications.

iTunes will now let you 'gift this app'

iTunes now provides the option to gift an app on paid apps in the App Store

Since the launch of the App Store and paid apps, there was never really a good way to give apps to friends or family. There was only the solution of getting an iTunes gift card (which start at $10 and go up to $100) and telling the recipient about the app that you recommend them to get.

    That's now the old.

As of today, the iTunes App Store lets users gift paid apps to send to others. To get this option, just click the drop down menu that is next to 'Buy App' and select 'Gift This App'.

There are uncertainties of what will happen if the recipient already has the app, if they use a different email address for iTunes, or if they don't even have an iPhone or iPod Touch. While these are still uncertain, this is still a nice and welcome surprise that Apple has sprung on us.

Apple rolls out web-based preview for apps

Ever since the acquisition of LaLa, Apple has been rolling out web-based previews for their iTunes products. Until today, there was only the web-based preview for music, leaving everyone that has an iPhone or iPod Touch behind without any web-based preview for iPhone apps.

Today they rolled it out for iPhone apps. Copying a link from the iTunes store and pasting it into a web browser will get you a page that looks like the screenshot above.

You can view the icon, description of the app (clicking More... will expand the description), price, ratings, developer info, customer reviews, screenshots, and what other customers also bought at the bottom. However, clicking 'View more by this developer' will take you to iTunes.

Pretty functional web-based preview for iPhone apps, and this has been much needed, since people may be shopping for iPhone apps on a computer that does not have iTunes installed.
